Tribunal: I Watched How Our Constitution Was Turned Upside Down By Those Who Lack A Sense Of History- Dele Momodu

Following the presidential election petition court’s judgment confirming Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory, PDP chieftain Dele Momodu reacted strongly. He condemned the judgment, claiming the constitution was deliberately misinterpreted by those lacking historical perspective.

In a post on the Ovation magazine Facebook page, Momodu accused the judges of distorting the constitution to justify Tinubu’s contested win. He argued the judgment sets a dangerous precedent by legitimizing electoral malpractices that subvert Nigeria’s democracy.

Momodu warned that the judgment rewards the powerful over the electorate’s will. He believes it has made Nigeria’s constitution meaningless by enabling the subversion of electoral laws meant to ensure free and fair elections.

By overlooking evidence of vote manipulation and other irregularities, Momodu feels the court failed to uphold constitutional provisions for credible elections. He sees the judgment as a blow to Nigeria’s democratic evolution.

The PDP chieftain also lamented the lost opportunity to reinforce citizens’ faith in electoral justice. He stated the judgment leaves many feeling disenfranchised as their votes now count less than theMachiavellian maneuvers of the political elite.

Momodu cautioned that when citizens lose confidence in democratic institutions, authoritarianism fills the void. He urged patriotic Nigerians not to despair but keep working to perfect the nation’s democracy.
