Over 1000 years of bridge building between Nigeria & Niger Republic Destroyed In Just 2 weeks—Nwosu

In a recent tweet posted on his official Twitter handle, Obinna Nwosu, the youngest House of Representatives candidate in Abia State during the 2023 elections, expressed his concerns over the abrupt deterioration of the historically significant relationship between Nigeria and the Niger Republic. Nwosu made this in reaction to a news article that the Punch paper released on their official website as regards how Nigerians in Niger are begging the Federal government for evacuation over impending attacks.

With a poignant tone, Nwosu’s tweet read: “Over 1000 years of multi-generational bridge building between Nigeria and the Niger Republic were destroyed in just two weeks. Indeed, to build is very hard, but to destroy is very easy. What took laborers weeks to build, a caterpillar will destroy in seconds.”

The statement by the young politician reflects his apprehensions regarding the rapid decline in relations between the two neighboring West African countries. It is worth noting that the historically significant bond between Nigeria and the Niger Republic has been characterized by cultural exchanges, economic partnerships, and cooperation on various regional and international issues.

Nwosu’s choice of words underscores the fragility of diplomatic relations and serves as a reminder of the painstaking effort required to establish and maintain strong bilateral bonds. He draws a parallel between the intricate work of building bridges and nurturing relationships and the ease with which these connections can be damaged or destroyed.
