Today's Headlines:Pres Election Rerun Is Labour Party Wishful Thinking—Omisore, Former Vice President Osinbajo gets new appointment

Presidential election rerun is Labour Party’s wishful thinking — Omisore

THE National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said that a presidential election rerun is the wishful thinking of the Labour Party, LP.

The National Chairman of LP, Mr Julius Abure, had urged members of the party to be alert, following information available to him that the APC was already preparing for a possible rerun of the 2023 presidential election.

However, Omisore, who spoke on Tuesday, when he featured on Channels TV programme tagged Politics Today, said: “There’s a way Labour Party deceives their followership. They use the false court of instance.

“The person that came third said they are going for rerun. How does he know that the court will give a rerun? So the Labour Party is now judging the tribunal? They are jokers.

“Most politicians are incurable optimists. Even from ground zero, they want to make 100 per cent.

“So, these are just wishful thoughts from the Labour Party. As far as I am concerned, they are jokers, they are nothing to worry about.”

Asked if the APC is prepared for a rerun, the APC scribe said: “There can’t be any rerun for God’s sake because it was a clear win.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, once acclaimed largest political party in Africa, remains disunited months after the recently concluded general elections.

Prior to the 2023 polls, the party was already standing on a shaky note, and losing the presidential election appears to have put the final nail in the coffin.

At the return of democracy in 1999, the PDP not only controlled the nation’s presidential seat, but dominated in both chambers of the National Assembly. This was the scenario until 2015 when the All Progressives Congress, APC, staged an upset following a merger of different parties.

Return IDPs To Ancestral Home, Tiv Youths Beg Tinubu

Tiv youths under the aegis of Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to solving Nigeria’s endemic security challenges.

The group however pleaded with the president to help relocate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa states among others to their ancestral homes.

TYO made this call yesterday at the sidelines of the inauguration of its new executives in Abuja.

The president of the group, Chief Joseph Saater Undu commended president Tinubu, for considering Benue State, North Central geopolitical zone, saying that it is not just strategic and historic, but a game changer in the North Central political equation.

He said, “Our people in IDPs, who are mostly peasant farmers, need to return home, and they need to return soon to continue with their normal lives and farming activities. Our nation is on the verge of famine.

“The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has recently estimated that 25 million Nigerians are at risk of facing hunger and starvation between June and August 2023, if the government does not act fast to stop this. It is really scary that hunger and starvation are starting amidst huge agricultural potentials.”
