The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) has said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, failed to prove corrupt practices during the presidential election.

Justice Haruna Tsammani said Obi failed to prove the allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the last presidential election.

Tsammani highlights the issues of corrupt practices that Obi alleged marred the election, including suppression of votes, inflation of votes, alteration of results, and overvoting.

The presiding judge pointed out that some paragraphs relating to these allegations had earlier been struck out for being too vague and generic without any particulars.

He noted that Obi failed to provide any credible evidence to prove his allegations of “suppression of votes, wrong computation of results, manipulation of results, and inflation of results.”

On overvoting, Tsammani said Obi could not “specify the number of votes and the margin of lead affected by overvoting” and, therefore, “the petitioners failed to establish the allegations of corrupt practices.”

He spoke in Abuja at a dialogue to mark the 60th birthday of National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy (AD), and Fellow of Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Prof Udenta Udenta.

Jonathan noted there was no commitment to integrate Nigeria into an entity with common philosophy.

“There was no commitment to integrate Nigeria into an entity that you can say yes, this is a nation with common philosophy …” he said.

According to him, the country was so polarised especially during early party formation as the parties mostly had regional bias.

The Lagos State Government has called on corporate organisations to prioritise primary healthcare centres within their areas of business in their corporate social responsibilities.

Speaking recently during a tour of PHCs within the Lagos State Health District 3, the Permanent Secretary of the District, Dr Monsurat Adeleke, pleaded with corporate organisations to “adopt some of the health centres as part of their corporate social responsibilities, or even build new ones,” according to a statement on Tuesday.

Adeleke noted that there was a need to refurbish some of the PHCs and increased the number in view of the increasing health demands of residents of the areas and the rate of expansion along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

She appreciated some firms, organisations, and individuals, including the collaboration between the Bill Gates Foundation and the Lagos State Health Management Agency, “which led to the registration of 250 indigent residents of Ikate community under the health agency.”

She recalled that the enrolment of the 250 indigent beneficiaries represents one of the remarkable achievements of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in delivering free health services to indigent communities, thereby achieving universal health coverage.

Adeleke promised to use her office to attract more interventions from both local and international health development partners to improve healthcare within the grassroots and ensure that there is wider health coverage.

The Alake and paramount ruler of Egba land, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has condemned the spate of military coups sweeping across the African countries.

The traditional ruler also noted that the constitutional duties of the soldiers never included governance.

Oba Adedotun stressed that the primary duty of the military is to protect the territorial integrity of the country and not dabble in politics saying that even if the politicians are making mistakes, they should be allowed to correct their errors after which they will attain perfection, insisting that coup is not the way out to correct whatever imperfections that are noticed in a democratically elected government.

The monarch disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking with some selected journalists at his palace in Ake, Abeokuta over his 80th birthday slated for September 13.
