Newly appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has promised to lead the ruling party with integrity, transparency and deep sense of responsibility.

In his acceptance speech during the APC 12th National Executive Committee (NEC) held in Abuja on Thursday, the former governor of Kano state also faulted the party’s 40 million membership register.

He lamented that despite the acclaimed bogus figure it could not translate into corresponding tangible result during the 2023 presidential election where the party got only eight million votes.

He promised to conduct a more credible scientifically-proven membership register from the wards to the state levels. He warned that going forward, he will uphold internal democracy, and provide a level playing ground for aspirants to elective positions during party primaries.

We will deploy technology in the registration of our members. The idea where the current figure of the membership of the party is over 40 million but could not reflect on the result of the last election, where we got only eight million votes, means that it can no longer be business as usual.

Abia-born cleric, Rev Kalu Ukpai Ota, has applauded the Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu for attracting quality projects to Abia North Senatorial District, and describing him as “God’s own working tool”.

Ota made the commendation in a chat with newsmen on Thursday in Ohafia, while inspecting the male hostel constructed by the lawmaker at Hope Waddel Secondary School Ohafia.

He urged other elected public office holders to emulate the performance of Senator Orji Kalu, stating “What I have seen here is quite impressive. Truly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is God’s own working tool”.

Ota further described him as a commendable representative of Abia State and praised his contributions as a lawmaker in the National Assembly while highlighting some of Kalu’s achievements as governor of Abia state, and his contribution to legislative business at the Senate from 2019 till present, describing it as “impressive”.

“OUK has made us proud as his constituents. Firstly, he distinguished himself as a governor from 1999- 2007 by making education free for all. He paid salaries, pension and gratuities to all without owing anybody. It is in his DNA to perform, and you can see what he is doing in the education sector today as a senator. Renovating schools and building new ones, distributing textbooks and other essential writing materials.
