Tribunal begins judgment on Obi, LP’s petition against Tinubu

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has begun the delivery of judgment in the petition by Peter Obi and the Labour Party challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu.

Obi, a former Anambra State governor and his party, LP, are challenging Tinubu’s victory in the February 25, 2023, presidential election.

A member of the tribunal’s five-member panel, Justice Abba Mohammed, is presently reading the lead judgment.

He started with some preliminary motions challenging the competence of some aspects of the petition.

Obi and LP are complainants in the petition marked CA/PEPC/03/2023, challenging the election which brought Tinubu to power on May 29.

Respondents in the petition are the Independent National Electoral Commission, President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and All Progressives Congress.

Mohammed started with some preliminary motions challenging the competence of some aspects of the petition.

Tinubu arrives India ahead of G20 Summit

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in New Delhi, the capital of India, for a six-day official visit, during which he will attend the G-20 Leaders’ Summit amongst other engagements.

The Boeing 737 conveying the President and his entourage, touched down at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, at about 6:40 pm local (2:10 pm Nigerian) time.

Before participating in the summit slated for September 9 – 10, 2023, the President will attend several high-level meetings and engagements with other world leaders and business executives on the sidelines of the Summit.

The PUNCH also learnt that the President will meet with the Nigerian community in India.

Nwifuru, Kalu, others lead Imo APC gov campaign

The National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress has released a fresh list of 225-man council to drive the national governorship campaign taking place in Imo State ahead of the November 11 election.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Arugungu.

The development is coming one week after the ruling party denied releasing viral documents containing notable names of chairmen, co-chairmen and members of campaign councils for Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States.

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State was appointed as the head of the 225-member council.

Customs Redeploys Comptrollers In Apapa, Tin-Can Island, Other Ports

The acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has approved the redeployment of Controllers at various commands across the country.

In a press statement by the national public relations officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the redeployment of the Customs Controllers was in response to the statutory retirement of some management members of the Nigeria Customs Service.

The Statement read, “the Acting Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has approved key appointments and redeployment within the service to ensure operational efficiency.

“Consequently, Comptrollers Florence Nanu Ogar-Modey and Queen Ogbudu, have been appointed Acting Assistant Comptroller Generals Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and Zonal Coordinator Zone B, respectively.”

“Some of the Comptrollers redeployed to various Customs formations include; Compt. Jaiyeoba Jide from Oyo/Osun Area Command to Apapa Area Command, Compt. Dera Nnadi from Seme to Tin-Can Island Port, Compt. Timi Bomodi from KLT to Seme, Compt. Ahmed Abe from PCA Zone ‘C’ to Kaduna Area Command and Compt. Babandede Mohammad from Lilypond Export Command to Lagos Free Trade Zone Command.”
