Tinubu Meets With Ambode, Kaduna Gov Uba In Aso Rock

President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with the former Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting comes after the President met with Ambode at the state reception organised for him by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on June 29.

The perceived return of Ambode to the mainstream of Lagos politics reportedly began with Sanwo-Olu’s visit to his predecessor’s home to celebrate his 60th birthday on June 14.

President Tinubu is reportedly considering Ambode for an appointment in his government, with this meeting believed to be an avenue to conclude discussions on it.

NAF aircraft crashes in Benue

A fighter jet belonging to the Nigerian Air Force on Friday crashed in Makurdi, Benue State capital, The PUNCH has learnt.

Details about the incident are still sketchy as of the time of filing this report.

A military source said two personnel of the Nigerian Air Force onboard ejected unhurt.

The source said, “An FT7-NI aircraft crashed today in Makurdi. The cause of the crash could not be immediately ascertained. It had two Airmen onboard. They ejected unhurt from the jet.”

The spokesperson for the service, Air Commodore, Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday.

He said the crash occurred during training, adding that the pilots are ”under observation” at the NAF Base hospital.

Gabkwet, however, said the Chief of Air Staff had instituted a board to investigate the crash cause.

Benjamin Mendy cleared of rape, attempted rape

French footballer and former Manchester City player, Benjamin Mendy, has been

found not guilty by the jury at the Chester Crown Court on Friday.

Mendy, who was accused of raping a woman in his Cheshire home in 2020

and charged with attempted rape denied both charges.

After three hours of deliberation by the jury at Chester Crown Court, he was cleared of all charges.

According to the UK Daily Mail on Friday, he refused to comment outside court but only said “Alhamdulillah” which means “praise be to God”.

NJC Recommends CJN’s Son, 22 Others For Appointment As Judges

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Olukayode Ariwoola Junior, son of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, for appointment as a Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Ariwoola Junior was recommended for the Federal High Court bench along with 22 others, who passed the screening and interview of the Council.

Apart from the 23 nominees for the Federal High Court, NJC also sought appointment of one Khadi for Kaduna State and four other Khadis for Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal.

A statement by the Director of Information of the Council, Mr Soji Oye, released on Friday indicated that Hon. Kadi Muhammad Aminu Danjuma is to be appointed as Grand Khadi for Kaduna State.

Besides, four others are to be appointed as Khadis for Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal and they are Muhammad Adam Kadem, Salisu Muhammad Isa, Isa Idris Sa’id and Aliyu Muhammad Kani.
