President Bola Tinubu and the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin, have felicitated with Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar who will turn 67, today, August 24, 2023.

Tinubu in a statement released by the State House on Wednesday noted that “The moment of joy and thanksgiving with the leader of the Qadiriyya Sufi Order, who also serves as Head of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (Society for the Support of Islam) and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs.

Nigeria’s Unemployment Rate Falls To 4.1%

Nigeria’s unemployment has plummeted from 33.3 per cent in 2020 to 4.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2023, and 5.3 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2022.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the 2020 statistics and the current one were calculated using different methodologies, after a two-year interruption.

The country’s unemployment figure which is an outcome of the labour force survey (LFS) conducted in Nigeria, is coming two years after the last official data of 33.3 per cent for the fourth quarter of 2020 which was released in March 2021.

NBS said on its website, “The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has enhanced its methodology of collecting labour market data through the Nigeria Labour Force Survey (NLFS) in line with International Labour Organisation (ILO) guidelines.

“The results presented in this report are for the reference periods of Q4 2022 and Q1 2023.”

Oil theft: Troops destroy illegal refinery in Delta

Troops of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army have destroyed an illegal refinery site in operations conducted in Ogbokoko and Atu, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Director of Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, who stated this in a statement on Thursday, said the development followed actionable intelligence made available to the troops.

The statement revealed that the operation took place on Wednesday as part of the ongoing war against oil theft in the South-South.

Approximately eight active ovens that were being used to illegally refine stolen crude oil were reportedly destroyed by the troops during the operation, according to Onyema.

He said not less than 14 storage reservoirs containing 200,000 litres of stolen crude oil and 90,000 litres of locally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) were also destroyed.

Insecurity: Kate Henshaw Urges FG To Scrap NYSC

Veteran Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw has urged the Federal Government to scrap the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme given the escalating insecurity.

DAILY POST recalls that eight NYSC members were recently kidnapped along a highway in Zamfara State.

Reacting Twitter on Wednesday, Henshaw said since the security of Corps members was no longer guaranteed, the scheme should be scrapped.

The thespian urged the government to “stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas.”

She wrote, “When I served in the North, it was a very memorable experience. Travelling from Bauchi by road to the airport was safe & then flying to Lagos just with my NYSC ID card, which also got me rebate on my ticket.
