Tinubu assigns portfolios to ministers

President Bola Tinubu has released the first batch of portfolios assigned to the newly appointed ministers with former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, named as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi was named as the Minister of Works while his counterpart from Osun, Gboyega Oyetola is to handle the Ministry of Transportation.

Photos: Lagos Muslims protest, petition lawmakers over Sanwo-Olu’s commissioner’s list

Muslims, under the umbrella of the Lagos Muslim Community, have staged a protest over what they described as official marginalization in the list of commissioner-designates forwarded to the state House of Assembly by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The commissioner’s list released by Governor Sanwo-Olu allegedly has eight Muslims, and 31 Christians. Muslims in their hundreds converged on the state’s House of Assembly complex in the early hours of Wednesday.

The protest had in attendance heads of various Islamic organizations and scholars among other Muslims faithful, displaying placards, which reads the inscription, “MUSLIMS SAY NO OFFICIAL DISCRIMINATION.” Addressing a large crowd of Muslim protesters at the venue, President, of the Muslim Community of Lagos State, Prof. Tajudeen. G.O. Gbadamosi read a petition, which was submitted to the lawmakers.

Five kidnapped in Ebonyi community

No fewer than five persons have been reportedly kidnapped by yet-to-be-identified gunmen, in Ebonyi State.

The incident, The PUNCH learnt took place at about 5:30 pm on Tuesday along the ever busy Mile 2 axis of the Ishiagu/Okigwe express road, Ebonyi State.

The victims were said to be returning home from Enugu Airport with an airport taxi (Sienna bus) with reg/no. KWL 941 PD before they were kidnapped at the Mile 2 area, Ishiagu, in the Ivo Local Government Area of the state and taken into the nearby bush by their assailants. A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, gave the names of the victims as one 41-year-old Ajah Chibuzor; his wife; their 12-year-old daughter; and the airport driver.

Katsina: Police kill bandit, recover AK-47, 110 rounds of live ammunition

The Katsina State Police Command said its operatives foiled a bandits’ attack in Korogo village Daddara, Jibia Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement made by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, dated August 15 and shared the Nigeria Police Force’s X handle (formerly Twitter) on August 16, it revealed that the operatives recovered 60 rustled sheep, one AK 47 rifle with 110 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

According to the statement, “On the 15th of August, 2023, at about 0009 hrs, the command received a distress call that bandits in their numbers, armed with dangerous weapons such as AK 47 rifles and shooting sporadically, invaded Korogo village Daddara, Jibia LGA, and rustled sixty (60) sheep.”
