A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Osita Chidoka has slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, over its conduct of the last presidential election.

Chidoka faulted INEC’s inability to electronically transmit election results in real-time.

He stated this while featuring on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

“INEC is a monumental disgrace. INEC is an organisation I am ashamed to be associated with as a Nigerian.

“I came on this programme and called for third-party verification of the INEC system so that we are sure that on election day what is going to happen that day would not lead to a glitch. On election day, INEC said there was a glitch.

One of the campaign promises of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State was the establishment of a ministry or an agency that would serve as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to drive the process of revamping Aba, the commercial capital of the state.

Aba featured so strategically in Dr. Otti’s campaign for the governorship of Abia State to the extent that he was willing to introduce a full-fledged ministry to oversee the realisation of his dream of a renewed Enyimba City, where trading and manufacturing would once again flourish.

Oftentimes during his campaigns in the run-up to the 2023 election, Otti would, with a palpable sense of nostalgia, recall growing up in Aba, where industries such as PZ, Lever Brothers, Nigerian Breweries, Aba Textile Mills, Glass Industry, International Equitable Association, Star Paper Mills, Onwuka Nails and Steel Industry and other conglomerates dotted the city.

The state governor, Nasiru Idris, visited the community and assured that the government has put measures in place to avert the recurrence of the incident.

He said his administration has given the security agencies all the necessary support and cooperation towards combating the criminalities across the state.

We will leave no stone unturned until we secure the state and make it a place where people will sleep with their two eyes closed, peacefully cultivate their farmlands, and go about their normal businesses without any fear,” the governor said.
