Subsidy Removal Is For Better Tomorrow- Tinubu Tells Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to be patient with his administration in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal, saying the move is in the country’s best interest. 

Tinubu spoke in Abuja on Thursday during the public presentation of the autobiography of an elder statesman, Edwin Clark.

The Nigerian leader, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, said efforts are being made the cushion the impacts of the subsidy removal.

Peter Obi Hails IBB At 82

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has hailed former military head of state, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd), describing him as one of the outstanding and experienced leaders providing leadership directions for the progress of Nigeria.

He said this on Wednesday in a series of tweets on X (formerly Twitter) accompanied with a picture Obi took with the ex-military ruler popularly known as ‘IBB’.

Obi, former Anambra State governor, congratulated ‘IBB on the occasion of his 82nd birthday.

Police Arrest 3 Suspects For Looting Imo Teaching Hospital

The police have arrested three suspects in Imo for stealing medical equipment belonging to the state teaching hospital (IMSUTH) in Orlu LGA. 

Henry Okoye, spokesperson of the Imo police command, said in a statement on Thursday, that operatives arrested one Kelechukwu Nwode while removing equipment from the healthcare facility.

Okoye said the 21-year-old suspect confessed to being a member of a syndicate that specialises in vandalizing and looting medical equipment and properties of the hospital.

SADC Supports AU, ECOWAS On Niger Coup

The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) bloc in Nigeria said on Thursday that the action taken so far by both the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the political impasse brought about by the military coup d’etat in the Republic of Niger is in order.

SADC is comprised of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, DR Congo, South Africa, Angola, Tanzania, and Namibia.

The High Commissioner of Namibia to Nigeria and the Dean of the SADC, H.E. Humphrey Geiseb, said Southern Africa is part of the African Union and is definitely concerned about coups, as expressed by ECOWAS.
