The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden has commended President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria for his “strong leadership. ”

Biden specifically mentioned Tinubu’s handling of the crisis triggered by the coup in Niger Republic.

The US leader also acknowledged the steps taken by the current administration “to reform Nigeria’s economy”.

Biden then thanked Tinubu for his “strong leadership” as the chair of Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, towards defending democracy and preserving the rule of law in Niger and the broader region.

“Nigeria’s invitation to the G20 Summit is a recognition of Nigeria’s important global role as Africa’s largest democracy and economy amid military takeover,” Biden added.

President In UAE To Resolve Bilateral Disagreements

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last night arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirate (UAE) from New Delhi.

His stopover in the oil-rich country after attending the G-20 Leadership Summit, will afford him the opportunity of engaging with the UAE leadership on issues bothering on bilateral relations.

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Ajuri Ngelale, said his boss will be furthering discussion on earlier conversations initiated with the Ambassador of the UAE to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi last month.

In a statement, the presidential spokesman said that besides the talks already scheduled with the Emirate’s authority, the President will also advance his administration’s investment drive by engaging other public and private sector authorities in the country.

The Labour Party senatorial candidate in the February 25, 2023 National Assembly Elections for Ebonyi South Zone, Linus Okorie, has knocked the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for saying he has the right to choose who will succeed him at the Senate.

This was even as he urged the former governor to spend more energy in delivering quality and durable roads to Nigerians than desperately ‘politicking’ for who will replace him at the Red Chamber.

Umahi was a senator for the Ebonyi South District until he ‘resigned’ after he was appointed minister by President Bola Tinubu.

On Saturday, during a courtesy call to the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, the works minister publicly said, “I have the right to choose who will succeed me.”

Amid the lingering controversy over the judgement of the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal, PEPT, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has said Nigeria currently stands on the precipice of uncertainty as the case moves to the Supreme Court.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the 2023 Second Plenary Assembly of the CBCN in Abuja yesterday, the President of the Conference, Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, voiced concerns over the conduct of the elections, which he said fell short of people’s legitimate expectations and moral and legal standards.

He highlighted the dismissive approach of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT, towards the petitions filed by aggrieved contestants.
