President Tinubu Retires NIMC CEO, Makes Fresh Appointments.

President Bola Tinubu has directed the commencement of 90-day pre-retirement leave for the Director-General/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Aliyu Abubakar Aziz.

This is to take effect from August 24, 2023, leading to his eventual retirement from service on November 24, 2023, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said, “The President approves the appointment of Engr. Bisoye Coker-Odusote to serve as the Acting Director-General/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for a 90-day period, with effect from August 24, 2023, after which, a full term of four years will begin as the substantive NIMC Director-General/CEO, beginning on November 24, 2023.

Furthermore, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub to serve as the Director/CEO of the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps (DTAC).

“This follows the recent expiration of tenure of the former DTAC Director/CEO, Dr. Pius Osunyikanmi. This appointment takes immediate effect.”

Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti and the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, among other party members on Tuesday stormed Owerri , Imo State for the party’s governorship campaign flag-off.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and Alex Otti among others were received by the party’s governorship candidate Senator Athan Achonu and other LP chieftains at the event.

Speaking during the flag-off which witnessed a large turnout of party members and supporters, the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti maintained that the Labour Party has only one authentic candidate and the full weight of the party is with him.

Kwara PDP suspends state youth leader indefinitely

The Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its youth leader, Prince Haliru Dansoho Mahmoud.

The decision was reached at the meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) after receiving the report of the disciplinary committee set up to look into the matter of the alleged ungentlemanly outbursts of the State Youth Leader against the party.

The report received from the disciplinary committee, however, indicated that Mahmoud was guilty of all the charges brought against him by party members.

According to a statement issued in Ilorin, the state capital, on Tuesday, by Prince Tunji Moronfoye, the spokesman of the party, the State Working Committee decided to suspend the youth leader indefinitely after considering the report.

Troops foil IPOB, ESN attack, neutralise one, arrest two

The Nigerian Army said troops of 34 Artillery Brigade, operating in 82 Division’s area of responsibility, foiled an attack by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), on its Forward ting Base at Ukwuorji, along the Owerri-Onitsha expressway.

Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the irredentist fighters attempted the attack on the troops on August 20, 2023, but met their Waterloo when they came under the superior firepower of the vigilant troops.

According to him, the troops neutralised one of the fighters, while two others were arrested and others fled.According to the statement, the troops recovered a vehicle, mobile phone, machete, nine empty cases of expended 7.62 mm special ammunition, and an empty case of expended 12.7mm ammunition.

In another development, following troops’ aggressive combat operations against insurgents in the Northeast, one Boko Haram fighter and his wife surrendered to troops of 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison in Gwoza.
