The Lamidi Apapa-led faction of Labour Party said it warned its Presidential candidate in the February 25 Presidential election not to pursue any case, saying that this will only result to ‘chasing a wild goose’.

The National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Abayomi Arabambi, who stated this while reacting to the verdict of the Presidential Election Tribunal, which strike out Obi’s petition against the election of President Bola Tinubu.

Arabambi said, “it is a shame that the legal team of Mr Peter Obi failed to advice him properly before going to the tribunal.

While saying that the party accepted the verdict without any bias, Arabambi noted that the whole process is a waste of time.

“Peter Obi has just gone on a wild goose chase. Imagine the candidate that failed to fund the party in order to engage the number of required polling agents, also the filing of the witnesses outside the stipulated time has shown that the legal team is a failure.

“Some of us have been saying that Peter Obi decided to go to the tribunal to justify all the money he collected during the campaign, all that money was corruptly syphoned”.

“Its unfortunate that Obi failed to convince the Tribunal those polling units where he was rigged out.

The tribunal also said that he “made generic allegations of irregularities against the respondent without specifying the polling units

“The petitioners alleged irregularities and will use spreadsheets, inspection reports, and forensic analysis as evidence in the trial.

He spoke in Abuja at a dialogue to mark the 60th birthday of National Secretary of Alliance for Democracy (AD), and Fellow of Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Prof Udenta Udenta.

Jonathan noted there was no commitment to integrate Nigeria into an entity with common philosophy.

“There was no commitment to integrate Nigeria into an entity that you can say yes, this is a nation with common philosophy …” he said.

According to him, the country was so polarised especially during early party formation as the parties mostly had regional bias.

The judgment is on three cases challenging the outcome of the February 25 presidential election that produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner.

How Buhari ‘rescued’ Nigeria’s economy

At the weekend, former President Muhammadu Buhari who had thought he would be resting in Daura or somewhere in Niger Republic suddenly became the subject of discussion in the Nigerian media. Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke stirred the hornet’s nest when he called out the former President on the performance of his administration, particularly in the area of corruption and management of the economy.

This article was inspired by the news reports on the response to Adoke’s interview by Mallam Garba Shehu, the former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Publicity where he was quoted as writing that “Buhari came on a rescue mission and effectively saved Nigeria from corrupt undertones that were planted to expose its economy to imminent collapse”. The claim by Garba Shehu that Buhari ‘rescued’ Nigeria’s economy is debatable. However, my opinion is that it is a claim that cannot stand the test of good scrutiny. And my reasons are as follows:

In the eight years of Buhari’s presidency, the inflation rate rose to 22.41 percent from 9.01 percent that the administration inherited from the Jonathan government, a development that pushed millions of Nigerians into poverty. It is believed that the inflation rate was caused by weak monetary and exchange rate policies as well as excessive government borrowing from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

PEPC Dismisses APM Petition Against Tinubu, Shettima’s Nominations

The Presidential Election Petition Court, (PEPC) sitting in Abuja, has described as incompetent, the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against the declaration of President Bola Tinibu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall that APM had asked the court to nullify President Tinubu’s election on the ground that the APC presidential candidate’s running mate, Kashim Shettima, was not validly nominated for election.

The court held that the issues raised by APM in its petition contained pre-election matters that could only be determined by the Federal High Court.

The chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who read the ruling, upheld the preliminary objections that all the Respondents raised to challenge the competence of the petition.

The court held that since the petition centered on the qualification or otherwise of President Tinubu to contest the presidential election that held on February 25, the APM ought to have gone to court within 14 days after Tinubu was nominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
