Obi Remains Symbol Of People’s Revolution – Ogene

The leader of the Labour Party (LP), caucus in the House of Representatives, Hon Afam Victor Ogene said presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the last election Mr Peter Obi remains the undoubted symbol of the people’s revolution towards the enthronement of a new Nigeria.

Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency Anambra State, in the House of Representatives, made this assertion yesterday in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, while felicitating with Mr Peter Obi, on his 62nd birthday celebration.

Tinubu Orders Probe Into Ivan’s Killing

President Bola Tinubu has ordered an investigation into the killing of the two-year-old boy, Ivan Omhonrina, during a raid by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives in Okpanam, Delta State, last week.

The Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Dele Alake, in a statement on Saturday, noted that Tinubu had directed the NDLEA management to quickly conclude the investigation.

Ivan did not deserve to die that way. We must ensure the incident did not end like that and that what happened to Ivan does not happen to any other person again,” Tinubu was quoted as saying.

The President described the incident as unacceptable, adding that those behind must be unravelled and brought to justice.

Kogi Guber: Court Affirms Ododo As APC Candidate

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, yesterday, affirmed Ahmed Ododo as All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 11 off-season governorship election in Kogi State.

Justice Obiora Egwuatudecidedn while delivering judgment in a suit seeking Ododo’s disqualification over alleged breach of electoral laws.

Ododo had emerged winner of the April 14, 2023, APC primary for the election.

A displeased APC aspirant, Abubakar Achimugu, had approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, asking that Ododo be disqualified from contesting the election on grounds that he did not resign his employment with the state public service 30 days before the primary.

In its ruling, yesterday, the court held that, contrary to Achimugu’s claim, evidence showed that Ododo resigned his appointment more than 30 days before the APC primary.

Government Needs To Remove Electricity Subsidy, Says Afrinvest Boss

The Group Managing Director, Afrinvest, Ike Chioke, has said the Federal Government needs to remove the subsidy on electricity to complete its cost-cutting moves.

This was disclosed at the Half year investment parley of the investment firm in Lagos on Tuesday.

A new report by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission showed that government spending on electricity subsidies had risen to N2.8tn as of December 2022.
