Niger Coup Leader, Tchiani Agrees To Dialogue With ECOWAS

Niger Republic coup leader, General Abdourahmane Tchiani has agreed to dialogue with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) after his meeting with Nigerian Islamic Scholars led by the national leader of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau in Niger Republic.

According to Niger Republic’s Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, General Tchiani gave the green light for talks with ECOWAS and was optimistic the talks with ECOWAS would take place in the next few days.

Tinubu Mourns Nigeria’s Ambassador To France, Kayode Laro

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the news of the passing of Nigeria’s Ambassador to France, Kayode Laro.

The president, who paid tribute to the late diplomat in a statement signed by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, yesterday, extended his condolences to Ambassador Laro’s family, the diplomatic community, as well as the government and the people of Kwara State.

President Tinubu, who recognised Ambassador Laro’s tireless dedication in fostering mutually-beneficial diplomatic ties between Nigeria and France during his tenure, saluted his commitment to diplomacy and the impactful role he played in ensuring the success of his first foreign trip to France in June this year after assumption of office.

The president stated that having devoted himself to his duties during 35 illustrious years in service as a Nigerian diplomat, spanning from 1983 to 2018, he remembered Ambassador Laro’s profound grasp of geo-political intricacies and how he aptly harnessed his wealth of skill and experience in multilateral diplomacy to advance worldwide peace, security, and development.

Uzodimma Unveils Woman As Running Mate

Governor Hope Uzodimma revealed Lady Chinyere Ekomaru as his running mate for the upcoming governorship election in Imo State.

The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Owerri. Uzodimma’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, explained that Ekomaru’s selection aimed to enhance the governor’s ambition to lead the state for another four years.

The statement emphasized Uzodimma’s fulfilment of promises to the people of Imo and his dedication to building a prosperous and secure state. 

4,387 Persons Died From Road Accidents in 6 Months – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) disclosed that a total of 4,387 people lost their lives in road traffic accidents across the 36 states and the FCT from January to June 2023.

Mr Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, identified factors contributing to these accidents, including night trips, untrained drivers, fatigue, route violations, and others.

Kazeem expressed concern over drivers’ failure to meet basic standards before embarking on their journeys. As part of a solution, the FRSC aims to engage truck owners and drivers in implementing functional onboard cameras for continuous monitoring. Within the same period, the Corps recorded 14,108 injuries stemming from these accidents.
