Rivers APC Accuses Wike Of Scheming To Hijack Party

The debate over who gets a ministerial post in Rivers State has intensified, with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state now opposing some forces asking for the state’s immediate past governor, Nyesom Wike, to take over the party’s leadership.

Darlington Nwauju, the APC Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, said on Arise Television on Sunday that the formation of the APC in the state took the lives of several people, and that it is unfair to reward a man who piloted the affairs of the state when the party faced a lot of difficulties. “We wrote to the President officially, explaining the circumstances surrounding the APC in Rivers State as well as the frolicking of some senior party members with the immediately preceding governor of our state,” he claimed.

“Now, let me say this: It is humiliating to us to have someone [in our party] who oversaw Rivers State while numerous members of our party were cruelly murdered. We believe it is disrespectful for people who are not even supporters of our political party to start pleading with the outgoing governor to join our organization or receive compensation from it. “We believe this is too disparaging for a party that has had a very tumultuous history dating back to 2014, and that the establishment of the APC in Rivers State has taken the blood of innocent people.”

“We cannot, as a political party in Rivers State, look the Adube family in the face, the Chisom Lenard family, and several other persons who were brutally killed for belonging to the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State,” he stated. “How are we going to explain it to them?” So, for us, it’s not only a moral issue. It’s a matter of whether our party is willing to abandon every known concept of self-respect.  He also claimed that Wike paid people to push for him to join and lead the APC in Rivers State.

“If you’ve been following the trends in recent weeks, where people have been sponsored by the immediate past governor to come campaign on his behalf, because we know they’re definitely campaigning on his behalf, calling on him to join the APC and lead the APC, “Does the APC lack leadership? The APC is in charge. Across the 319 political wards, the APC is a well-structured political party. “And so, for any group or individuals to become overnight lobbyists on behalf of the immediate past governor is very, very prosperous,” Nwauju said.
