Ministerial appointments: Tinubu not fair to Igbos – Segun Showunmi

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Segun Showunmi, has slammed President Bola Tinubu over how he is constituting his cabinet, claiming he’s not being fair to the southeast zone.

Showunmi claimed that the administration has done quite a lot of things that could be considered serious missteps. He asserted on Wednesday while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today program. Showunmi said he is a little bit uncomfortable with the fact that it’s beginning to seem that his people (southwest) would get larger positions in Tinubu’s government.

He said, “You know I am a Yoruba man. Ironically, I have known Asiwaju for years. So there must be some kind of soft spot there. But I have tried very hard to say “Let’s wait until hundred days”. Why? Because there’s a tradition and culture of “let them take hundred days to settle down”.

Former Emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi meets Niger coup leaders

The former Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi has met with leaders of the military junta in Niger Republic.

In a video currently in circulation, Sanusi was the seen in company of the Sultan of Damagaran during a visit to the coup leader, Abdourahmane Tiani. Damagaran is the third largest city in Niger. This comes hours after the leaders aborted a meeting with the United States acting Deputy Secretary, Victoria Nuland during her visit to Niamey, the capital city of the Niger Republic.

The military junta had also turned down entreaties from the African Union while it also refused to yield to the demand of the Economic Community of West Africa States on the reinstatement of the ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum.

The United States of America has warned the Niger junta that America may be pushed to be involved militarily if the country’s military rulers do not return to constitutional order.

The US acting Deputy Secretary, Victoria Nuland, in a special briefing on Niger disclosed this a teleconference on Tuesday. She noted, “…There is still a lot of motion here on many sides about where the governance situation will go.

“So we will be watching that closely and there are several regional meetings coming up and consultations with allies and partners that we need to make.

Tinubu meets Wike, El-Rufai in Aso Rock

President Bola Tinubu is currently in a meeting with ex-governors Nyesom Wike and Nasir El-Rufai at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, Daily Trust reports.

According to the paper, Wike arrived at the State House around 1:40 pm, while El-Rufai entered the presidential wing of Aso Rock around 2 pm. DAILY POST reports that both Wike and El-Rufai are ministerial nominees.

While Wike was screened and confirmed by the Senate, El-Rufai is yet to be cleared over an alleged pending security report. There are speculations that efforts are being made to ensure that the Senate confirms Malam El-Rufai.
