Lagos Assembly confirms 22 Sanwo-Olu’s nominees, rejects 17

The Lagos State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, confirmed 22 out of the 39 cabinet nominees sent recently by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for screening.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who presided over the day’s plenary, said the confirmation followed a rigorous and detailed screening of the nominees by an ad hoc committee led by the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Fatai Mojeed.

Obasa commended the committee for its effectiveness and urged the confirmed nominees to always remember that they are in office to serve the people of the State and not individuals.

He also promised that the House would continue to do its best in the interest of the State.

Wagner Boss Dies In Plane Crash

Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of Wagner, a private military company, has been killed in plane crash, according to BBC.

Ten people were on board the private jet that crashed in the north of Moscow, capital of Russia.

The Russian Civil Ation Authority said seven passengers and three crew were on board the Embraer aircraft, which was en route from Moscow to St Petersburg.

Prigozhin shared his first video address since his aborted June mutiny just two days ago.

Prigozhin appeared to be in Africa in the video, and he also spoke about Russia making the continent “free”.

The video, shared on Telegram channels affiliated with the Wagner Group, was released amid the ongoing fear within Africa on the likely invasion of Niger.

The coupists in Niger had reached out to Russia to assist in the event of a possible clash with ECOWAS troops.

Tinubu meets ECOWAS president, Abdulsalami over Niger Republic crisis

President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with Omar Touray, president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of state, at the presidential villa.

The meeting which is being held to discuss the political instability in Niger Republic, also has Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser (NSA) to the president, in attendance.

An Abdulsalami-led ECOWAS delegation arrived in Niamey, Niger’s capital city, on Saturday, for the bloc’s “final” negotiations for a return of power to deposed President Mohamed Bazoum.

The delegation included Muhammad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, and the ECOWAS commission president.

Akindele denies defrauding MKO Abiola’s family, says allegations untrue

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Duport Midstream Company Limited, Dr Akintoye Akindele, has opened up on a business dispute he has with the family of the late MKO Abiola.

In a short video he released on Tuesday, the businessman said his business rivals are trying to weave unfound fraud allegations around him through cronies, describing all fraud allegations against him as untrue.

He said, “It’s about a business dispute with my former partners and a notable family in Nigeria, the Abiola family, which the police are already investigating and they will get to the bottom of it eventually.
