It Is Crucial To Engage Niger Coup Leaders — Tinubu

Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African State (ECOWAS), President Bola Tinubu, says it is crucial to prioritise diplomatic negotiations to resolve the crisis in Niger Republic.

According to the Nigerian President, the regional bloc must engage the coup leaders in the neighbouring country to reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum.

Tinubu spoke on Thursday in Abuja when he declared opened ECOWAS second extraordinary session on the situation in Niger Republic.

He said, “More so, in reaffirming our relentless commitment to democracy, human rights, and the well-being of the people of Niger, it is crucial that we prioritise diplomatic negotiations and dialogue as the bedrock of our approach.

“We must engage all parties involved, including the coup leaders, in earnest discussions to convince them to relinquish power and reinstate President Bazoum. It is our duty to exhaust all avenues of engagement to ensure a swift return to constitutional governance in Niger.”

Tinubu said the coup in neighbouring Niger has far-reaching effects on democratically constituted governments in the sub-region.

IGP Egbetokun reappoints Adejobi as Force PRO

The acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Egbetokun, has approved the reappointment of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as the Force Public Relations Officer, PRO.

This was announced in a statement issued by an Administrative Officer in the Force Public Relations Department, Anjuguri Manza, in Abuja, on Wednesday. Anjuguri explained that Adejobi’s reappointment followed his recent promotion from the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP.

He was the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, between 2008 and 2016; PPRO Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, 2016 and Lagos State Command PPRO between 2020 to 2021. Adejobi became Deputy Force PRO at Force Headquarters, Abuja, in 2021 and was recently the Force PRO before his reappointment by the new IGP.

Court freezes Orjiako’s bank accounts, assets

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday, granted an ex-parte order freezing Dr ABC Orjiako’s bank accounts and other assets over alleged indebtedness to Access Bank Plc.

The trial judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, granted the order while ruling on an ex-parte application by the bank in suit FHC/L/BK/08/2023. The court also restrained Orjiako his agents, servants, and/or privies, or any other person or group of persons whatsoever, under his authority or any other authority from operating, withdrawing from, or otherwise tampering and/or dealing with his funds in any bank and/or financial institution within Nigeria, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for the appointment of a Special Manager filed along herein.

The court also restrained his former employers and his other investment vehicles from having anything to do with him financially until his alleged indebtedness was cleared. Respondents in the suit are Helko Nigeria Limited, Neymeth International, Pharmaceuticals Plc, Salvic Petroleum Resources Limited, and Zebbra Energy Limited, among others.
