BAT's Ministers:Tinubu will rely on the outcome of the security screening, which he explained–Source

According to a recent report in Punch paper, certain politicians who believe their proximity to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu guarantees them ministerial positions are in for a surprise. The President is purportedly relying on security reports for the individuals whose names have already been sent to security agencies for screening before the ministerial list’s submission to the Senate on or before Thursday, July 27th.

Sources reveal that President Tinubu has submitted names to security agencies for clearance, but this does not guarantee their inclusion in the final ministerial list. Despite the influx of names from politicians, party members, and associates expressing interest in joining his cabinet, the President has kept his decisions close to his chest.

There is notable interest from some former governors who recently ended their tenures on May 29th to become ministers. Individuals from various backgrounds, including political bigwigs, traditional rulers, captains of industries, and those living abroad, have expressed their aspirations. However, instead of waiting to finalize the list, President Tinubu is progressively sending these names for security clearance, leading the Presidency to clarify that there is currently no official ministerial list.

The President’s plan is to use the outcomes of the security screening as a criterion for potential disqualification, rather than outright rejection of nominations. The security screening process is reportedly at an advanced stage, and Tinubu intends to rely on the reports to assess the suitability of the candidates. In case some individuals remain adamant about serving despite potential disqualification, senators from their respective states may raise objections during the National Assembly’s screening process.

Politicians anticipating ministerial positions based on their closeness to President Tinubu may be disappointed, as security reports will play a crucial role in determining the final selection. The President has been inundated with a long list of hopefuls from various backgrounds, and he is meticulously using security clearance outcomes as a means of filtering potential candidates. The list’s composition remains a closely guarded secret until its eventual submission to the Senate.

“Some ex-governors want to be ministers but Tinubu has planned to use one criteria to check them. Tinubu will rely on the outcome of the security screening, which he explained had reached an advanced stage”.
