President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday said any interference in democratic governance would not be accepted by the leadership of the Economic Community of West African States.

Tinubu who is the Chairman of ECOWAS also praised the solidarity of the Economic Community of Central African States on the political impasse in the Republic of Niger.

According to a statement released by the Presidential Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu spoke when he received the Special Envoy of President Ali Ondimba and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon, Hermann Immongault, at the State House in Abuja.

The President said the special message of support and solidarity from President Bongo, who doubles as the Chairman of ECCAS, expressing the full support of ECOWAS resolutions on the unconstitutional takeover of government in Niger, proved once more that military interference in democratic governance is not acceptable anywhere, and certainly, no longer so on the African continent.

“I appreciate the solidarity and support of President Bongo on the situation in Niger.

“We are working not to compound the problem. We have well-meaning people who have intervened.

The president who was represented by the National Resource Person, Professor Ralpy Ofokwu said the donation was a national programme embarked upon by the union, noting that the same programme was going on simultaneously across the country.

The President said, “The purpose of our visit today is to show the kindness of ASUU, the kindness that ASUU has been fighting for the upliftment of the masses.

“One of it is what we are doing throughout the country. As we are here in Abagana camp, ASUU is also in Niger, Gombe, and other places, giving this to those who are marginalised, especially at this time of excruciating poverty, time our people are suffering from fuel subsidy removal and a time when people at the camp have nothing to eat.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Akinterinwa has said the Rotimi Akeredolu-led administration in the state had performed tremendously well in the area of infrastructure and other sectors.

Akinterinwa stated that the administration had boosted the Internally-Generated Revenue of the state, from the initial N500 million monthly of the previous administration to N3 billion monthly, which implies that the current administration generates N36 billion annually.

The commissioner stated this in a chat with journalists in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday.

He said Akeredolu was very determined to jerk up the IGR and his determination had been yielding positive results in that regard.

He said, “One of the things the governor (Akeredolu) had determined to do before starting the administration is finding a means to increase the IGR of the state, it was a clear mission.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi on Tuesday said there were no plans by the administration of President Bola Tinubu to reintroduce fuel subsidy.

Ajayi made the assertion on X formerly known as Twitter at 6:08 pm WAT.

He said, “There is no plan to reintroduce any form of fuel subsidy. There is no condition to support any increase in prices at this time. President Tinubu is convinced based on information before him that we can maintain current pricing without reversing the current deregulation policy by swiftly cleaning up existing inefficiencies within the midstream and downstream Petroleum sector.”

Ajayi’s comment followed news about a temporary reintroduction of fuel subsidy following the increment in the landing cost of fuel due to the free fall of the Naira in the parallel market.

Nigeria has continued to grapple with the soaring costs of goods and services due to the removal of the subsidy on petrol and the unification of the naira at both the I and E window and parallel markets by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
