Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, has debunked reports claiming he hinted at becoming Nigeria’s president in 2027.

Obi, who is still in court to challenge the result of the 2023 election that produced Bola Tinubu as president, labelled the reports fake.

He noted that he also did not comment on the prospective appointees into the Federal Government.

Speaking on Saturday, Mr. Obi said: “I have noticed with dismay, an emerging pattern where fake media reports and news items are predicated on interviews and press remarks I never granted. Two recent instances relate to my saying that I am looking forward to running for office in 2027 on a supposed Arise TV interview that never took place.

Tinubu Receives Oba Of Benin, Olugbon Of Orile-Igbon

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday received, separately, the Oba of Benin Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, as well as the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao, in his office at the State House, Abuja.

The Oba of Benin Kingdom did not speak to journalists after what it considered as a visit to congratulate the President. However, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon spoke after his interaction with the president.

Oba Alao said Nigerians would enjoy prosperity at the end of the day. He said this government was committed to serving and bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.

The Deputy Chairman of Oyo State Obas and Chiefs said that they paid a courtesy visit to the President to wish him well, a successful tenure and also they have been able to discuss some national issues that will bring prosperity to all Nigerians.

We’re Tired Of Sit-at-home—Enugu Residents

Residents across Enugu State have cried out to the governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for help over the continuous declaration and enforcement of the illegal sit-at-home order by a faction of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) led by Simon Ekpa.

The residents, who spoke to newsmen at different locations in the state when a civil society group, Coalition for the Advancement of Good Governance (CAGG) led by Comrade Nduka Festus, went round the state to sensitize and also sound out the people on the negative impacts of sit-at-home on them, said they were tired of the protracted sit-at-home order.

The people, who rued their losses, lamented that the sit-at-home was inflicting unimaginable pains, hardships and hunger on them.

At Abakpa market, Mrs., Beatrice Onyinye, a trader, recounted the ordeal she was facing in her business as a result of the sit-at-home. She said that school fees had oiled up while she was also unable to pay the rent for her shop since the illegal sit-at-home order was declared.

It’s hypocrisy to arrest Emefiele and leave Buhari — Lawyers

Legal practitioners under the aegis of Lawyers in Defence of Democracy have slammed the State Security Services SSS for arresting and detaining the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele while leaving out his principal and approving authority, former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The SSS had in December last year made attempts to arrest Emefiele but was stopped by the Courts.

Emefiele had in the lead up to the 2023 general elections came under intense scrutiny following the apex bank’s Naira Redesign Policy which many partisans saw as targeting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, then presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

Speaking on Arise Television breakfast show monitored Friday in Abuja, Convener, Lawyers in Defence of Democracy, Kingdom Okere, also accused the SSS of framing up Emefiele. He described the arrest as illegal, saying it was in violation of a subsisting order of the Federal Capital Territory FCT High Court.

He consequently called for the sack of the Director General State Services DGSS, Yusuf Bichi, saying there was no reason to have retained him when President Tinubu sacked the Service Chiefs.
