ECOWAS Meeting On Niger Crisis Kicks Off In Abuja

The Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) meeting on the Niger crisis is ongoing in Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the chairman of ECOWAS, had scheduled another meeting after the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum the regional bloc issued for the reinstatement of President Mohamed Bazoum.
The junta had ignored the ultimatum, resulting in additional sanctions by ECOWAS.
The regional bloc had threatened possible military option; a move that was widely rejected, especially in Nigeria.

Gunmen Kill 21 In Plateau

Gunmen have killed 21 persons in Baton and Rayogot, Heipang District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Mr Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Movement (BYM), a socio-cultural group, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Jos.
Tengwong said that the attack on the communities occurred at 1:26 am. on Thursday, and left seven other persons with various degrees of injuries. Tengwong, who decried the unprovoked attacks in some parts of the state, called on goverment and security agencies to rise to the challenge and end arbitrary killings in the state.
ECOWAS Heads Of State Begin Deliberations After Tinubu’s Opening Soeech

The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Heads of State and Governments, who converged on Abuja in a summit focused on the military coup in Niger Republic, have gone into a closed-door session for deliberations.
At the last count, over 12 member-states were present when the ECOWAS Chairman and President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, was making his opening speech.
Those present were President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone; President Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco of Guinea Bissau, and President Everiste Ndayishimiye of Burundi.
Two Escape Death In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Lone Accident

Two persons on Thursday escaped death in a lone car accident along the Longbridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The incident which happened at about 7:03 am involved a Toyota Corolla with number plate MUS-553-CW.
The unit commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency along the axis, Ojo Oloye, told The PUNCH that the vehicle was heading inward Lagos State when it had a tyre burst and somersaulted.
He said, “The accident occurred when the front tyre of the vehicle burst while in motion. This caused the vehicle to somersault. The occupants were a male and a female.
