Jesutega Onokpasa emphasizes that PEPC's decision relies on facts, not emotions.

According to Daily Post, Mr. Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized that the recent judgement delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) was thoroughly rooted in factual evidence, devoid of any emotional biases. Speaking during a virtual press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, he underscored that the petitioners had primarily relied on emotional appeals rather than concrete facts in their bid to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s electoral triumph.

Onokpasa, a seasoned legal practitioner, further asserted that the entire legal process had regrettably been an exercise in futility, squandering the time of both the Nigerian populace, the court, and the legal professionals involved.

He firmly asserted that the legal framework operates on the foundation of factual representation, not swayed by sentimental considerations. Onokpasa, who also served as a member of the dissolved APC Presidential Campaign Council, pointed out that there had been concerted efforts to undermine and exert pressure on the judiciary during the proceedings at the PEPC, but these attempts ultimately proved ineffective. He shed light on the contentious issue surrounding the allocation of 25 percent of votes in Abuja, highlighting how it was a point of contention that sought to establish parity between the Federal Capital Territory and other states. In his words, “The contentious 25 percent votes in Abuja was attempting to elevate certain citizens above others in terms of their political weight.”
