Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, yesterday explained why they rejected the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which upheld the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Atiku described the judgment as bereft of justice.

The former vice president also said the judgment failed to restore the confidence of Nigerians on free and fair elections.

Obi said he rejected the tribunal’s decision because it was devoid of justice.

However, the ruling party hailed the verdict, describing it as a victory for democracy.

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello urged the two opposition presidential candidates to accept their defeat, warning that their appeals will be an exercise in futility.

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, on Wednesday, urged its staff members to support his vision for the region.

While thanking President Bola Tinubu for regaining confidence in him by reappointing him as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, he pledged to work hard with the support of staff to meet the President’s expectations.

The PUNCH reports that Tinubu recently approved Ogbuku’s reappointment for a second term. He is to remain in an acting capacity, pending the Senate’s confirmation of his reappointment.

According to a Thursday statement signed by its Director, Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, Ogbuku spoke during an interactive session with management and staff of NDDC at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

I’m Not Going Into Retirement, Atiku Replies Shettima

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has confirmed that he will not be going into political retirement despite his loss at election tribunal.

Atiku on Thursday vowed to continue contributing his quota in deepening democracy after Vice President Kasshim Shettima boasted to retire him into cattle rearing.

Atiku, who spoke through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, said, “He is not going into retirement and will instead continue to be part of the struggle to deepen democracy in the country”.

The statement also described as false, reports that Atiku congratulated President Bola Tinubu over the outcome of the election petition tribunal.

“It is fake news being orchestrated by those desperately looking for validation for the usurpation of the mandate of Nigerians,” he said.

According to Ibe, Atiku couldn’t have validated electoral banditry because doing so would have amounted to a rape on the conscience of Nigerians who have struggled for years to entrench electoral integrity.

President Bola Tinubu, who is currently in India for the G-20 Summit, shared his conviction with Nigerians during an interaction with them on Thursday evening.

He told them that leadership and public sector management deficit in the country made him to contest for the presidency.

The president called on Nigerians to harness the country’s rich diversity as a uniquely powerful tool for advancing prosperity and national development for the benefit of all citizens, emphasising that our diversity must be leveraged to drive economic growth, innovation, and social progress.

“We are here to present a new future to you. A future of a country that is so rich, endowed, and highly populated. Very dynamic, unique in its culture, tradition, and ethnicity. That is what will make our prosperity possible, if only we can make use of our diversity for prosperity,” he said.
