Atiku condemns coup in Gabon

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has flayed the coup d’etat which, on Wednesday, toppled the democratically elected government of President Ali Bongo.

Atiku who took to his verified X handle, (formerly known as Twitter), on Thursday, to berate the coup plotters, noted that despite its flaws, democracy remained the best form of government acceptable to the majority of the people across the world.

“The coup in Gabon stands condemned. Democracy and democratic governance have come to stay as a preferred form of government, and everything should be done to enthrone, nurture, and sustain it.

Opposition presidential candidates beg Tinubu for appointments

Some opposition presidential candidates, who took part in the 2023 general elections, on Thursday met with the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, begging him to prevail on President Bola Tinubu to include them in his ‘Government of National Competence’.

Tinubu as president-elect had, in reaction to calls for a Government of National Unity, said he would go beyond that and establish a ‘Government of National Competence‘.

Some of the presidential candidates who met with Ganduje at the National Secretariat of the party included those of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; Action Democratic Party, ADP; National Rescue Movement NRM; Action Peoples Party, APP, among others.

During the visit, the presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement, NRM, Ambassador Felix Osakwe, spoke on behalf of the Forum of Concerned Presidential Candidates.

He said they are for the peace and development of Nigeria, hence their refusal to challenge Tinubu’s mandate at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal PEPT.

He said: “I feel Mr Chairman, you will be the right person to lead us to meet with Mr. President so that we can air our own views in his presence and also to let him know that it is not all the presidential candidates that were against him. We choose not to go to court because this is Nigeria.

I dare anyone to suspend me from PDP – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has dared the leadership of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to suspend or discipline him.

Wike stated this on Wednesday during his interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today programm

Gov Aliyu vows synergy with Army to end banditry in Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu has reassured his administration’s readiness to support Security agencies to tackle banditry in the state.

The governor gave this indication while bidding farewell to the outgoing Garrison Commander 8 division Nigeria Army Sokoto, Brigadier General Taye Ahmed.

Dr Aliyu described the role of security operatives in tackling banditry as critical to achieving a prosperous Sokoto state.

He added that his administration will leave no stone unturned in providing the necessary support to Security agencies in order to safeguard the people of the state.

He extolled the contributions of the outgoing Garrison Commander in the fight against armed Bandits and charged the incoming Commander to maintain the tempo, assuring him of all the needed support and assistance.

Earlier in his remarks, the outgoing Commander of 8 division Nigeria Army Sokoto, Brigadier General Taye Ahmed, commended Governor Aliyu for his support to the military towards ensuring a secured Sokoto State.

The incoming Garrison Command Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi vowed to sustain the fight against Banditry in the state.

General Alexander further promised to work diligently with a view to achieving a peaceful state.
