Tinubu Told His Ministers To Prepare To Fetch Water From A Dry Well And That Was Quite Profound -Majeed Dahiru

Majeed Dahiru, a public affairs analyst has reacted to a statement President Bola Tinubu made while addressing the 45 ministers that constitute the Federal Executive Council in a meeting held at the Council Chambers of the State House. In an interactive session on AIT , Dahiru said Tinubu told his ministers that they had been asked to fetch water from a dry well. He said Tinubu used this metaphor as a call for the ministers to make the best use of limited resources to fulfill their responsibilities.

According to Dahiru: “There was something Tinubu said that was quite profound when he told his ministers to prepare to fetch water from a dry well and that we are not going to borrow money. If you tie these two statements together it means we don’t have money now, but as ministers out of a country of 200 million people you are privileged to be among the 45 that were selected to exercise the delegated authority of Mr. President, however, it places a responsibility on you to use your head and character to squeeze water out of stone by fetching water from a dry well and that is actually the responsibility of the government.

Speaking further, Dahiru said “Tinubu was trying to tell them that you are in a position to perform magic and I will monitor you to ensure that you perform this magic and it is quite heartwarming that for now, we have a policy in place to halt borrowing. Anybody who tells you that the government must borrow as a matter of necessity is not being honest. Endless borrowing will result in endless sorrowing so this is a right step in the right direction”.
