Gabon Coup: The Bongo Ondimbas Have Ruled Gabon For Almost 56 Years – Bassey Archibong

A former Nigerian Ambassador to Gabon, Ambassador Bassey Archibong, has said that the citizens of Gabon might have been tired of the Bongo Ondimba Dynasty in the country; as he revealed that the Ondimbas have ruled the country for almost 56 years.

Ambassador Bassey Archibong had said, “Cumulatively, the Bongo Ondimbas have ruled the country for almost 56 years.”

Ambassador Archibong, who spoke during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, said the coup masters in Gabon are only claiming that the election that led to the emergence of President Ali Bongo was marred with irregularities, and not that the country was tired of his government. According to him, the military could not have instigated a coup on the basis that the Bongo Ondimbas have been ruling the country for a long time, because the country’s constitution did not make provisions for a term limit.

Ambassador Archibong, when asked if there were ways that the country had resolved electoral petitions in the past, said he did not witness any election throughout his stay in the country. He, however, said President Ali Bongo performed well as the country’s head during his stay in the country.
