Even if Oshiomhole tries to embrace Shaibu, he will find a hostile environment around us- Kassim Afegbua
Kassim Afegbua, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed his perspective on the possibility of Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, returning to the APC. Shaibu has been rumoured to be considering a return to the APC, following his disagreements with Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Afegbua, who is a supporter of former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, emphasized that those aligned with Oshiomhole would not readily accept Philip Shaibu back into the fold. He cited the history of conflicts and negative remarks made by Shaibu against Oshiomhole as a basis for this stance.
He disclosed two main reasons for their reservations: Firstly, supporters of Oshiomhole believe in upholding his dignity and respect, and they may not welcome Shaibu, who has been at odds with Oshiomhole, back into the party. Secondly, Afegbua argued that there should be consequences for actions, and Shaibu should face reprimand for his perceived misconduct. His comments shows the complexities of political alliances and rivalries within a party and the considerations that come into play when discussing the return of politicians who have previously engaged in conflicts or switched parties.
Hear him; “Those of us who are supporting Adams Oshiomhole and celebrate the fact that his dignity and respect has been restored by the fact that he won an election as a Senator when they thought that he was no longer needed by his people. Those of us who fall in that category will not allow a Philip Shaibu to come and pollute our environment. Having called Oshiomhole all manners of names, even if Oshiomhole as an individual tries to embrace him, he will find a hostile environment around Adams Oshiomhole from those of us who are part of Oshiomhole’s foot soldiers. Secondly, there has to be punishment for bad behaviour. And for a Philip Shaibu who was a nobody and became a somebody by virtue of the benevolence of his political godfather, there has to be some level of reprimand for the actions he took, and there has to be some level of punishment for what he did.”
