The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has got many people talking over a statement about hand sanitizer being made from corn. APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, took to his Facebook page to share a video of Tinubu speaking on the term ‘AGBADOnomics’ and how to bring low the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria. In the video, Tinubu, while speaking about the numerous things that can be produced with corn, said he got to know about cornflakes when he travelled to America.
The former Governor of Lagos State also expressed surprise that hand sanitizer is also produced from corn, adding that Nigeria can cover the entire west Africa region with corn production. While Tinubu’s statement may seem surprising and wired, an article on world-grain.com and a search on google show that in the production of hand sanitizers, cornstarch is converted to glucose and combined with yeast to produce ethanol.
