There's No Antidote To Good Governance, A Coup Won't Succeed If The People Are Happy – Dr. Victor Okhai

Amid the ongoing installation of a military junta in the french-speaking country of Gabon after President Ali Bongo Ondimba’s removal from the seat of power, renowned African Affairs Analyst, Dr. Victor Okhai has come out to insist that only good governance will ensure the failure of a coup plot against a democratically government in any country.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV’s ‘THISDAY’ program on Wednesday, August 30, Dr. Okhai pointed out that when the citizens of a country are happy with the democratically elected government in power, it will be very difficult for any attempt to overthrow such an administration to succeed.

He said; “There is no antidote to good governance. If the people are happy with you, it is going to be very difficult for a coup to succeed. Like I said, Bongo provided the ingredients for this coup by his very actions. If it is western democracy you want, then allow it to thrive. Do not impose your will on the people.

Bad Governance, corruption, and imposition, either by the leaders themselves or by the West, over the will of the people, is a panacea for coups. So, the best thing to do as a president, is to rule your people well, avoid corruption, and draw your oxygen from the people, not from external forces.”
