‘There’s crisis there’ – Angwe, ex-NNPP national legal adviser, dumps party

A former national legal adviser for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Bem Angwe, has left the organization.

In a statement released on Sunday, Angwe, the party’s nominee for governor of Benue state in the most recent general election, cited “crisis and confusion” as some of the factors that led to his departure from the organization.

According to The Punch, the professor expressed his desire to resume his scholarly pursuits and participation in the defense and advancement of human rights in the nation.

Angwe said, “On August 26, 2023, I withdrew my membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in consideration of the recent unfortunate crisis and the confusion that has engulfed the NNPP at all levels and following the NNPP Constitution 2022 (as amended)”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I have informed the party chairman of the Mbatyu NNPP Ward Executive Committee in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State of my decision to resign from the party.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my Ward, LGA, and State party Executive members, other party members, supporters, and all my well-wishers throughout Benue State and Nigeria as a whole for the great support they accorded me while I was in the party and during my Governorship campaigns as a Gubernatorial Candidate on the platform of the party,” the candidate said.

Angwe was grateful to everyone who supported him and held him in high regard.
