In another development, the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Makurdi, Benue State, has declared Senator Gabriel Suswam of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the February 25 election for the Benue Northeast senatorial district. The tribunal’s ruling, which took over three hours, resulted in the removal of Emmanuel Udende of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the National Assembly.

Suswam, a member of the 9th senate, had previously lost his bid to return to the upper chamber of the National Assembly. However, he contested the election’s outcome, claiming that Udende did not secure the majority of lawful votes cast in the February 25, 2023, Benue North East Senatorial District election. The tribunal, chaired by Justice Ory Zik-Ikeorha, ruled in favor of Suswam and the PDP.

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Enugu has invalidated the election of the Labour Party’s candidate, Professor Sunday Nnamchi, as the House of Representatives member for the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in Enugu State. This decision came as a result of a petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Cornelius Nnaji.

In their judgment, the three-man panel of justices, led by A. M. Abubakar, declared Prince Cornelius Nnaji as the duly elected candidate in the election that took place on February 25, 2023. Prince Nnaji, a former federal lawmaker, contested the election results, arguing that the respondent, Professor Sunday Nnamchi, was not properly sponsored and qualified to run under the Labour Party’s candidacy.
