Osun Monarch, Others, Arraigned For Arson And Destruction Of Shrine

The Osun police command, on Wednesday, arraigned a monarch, Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, along with nine others before a Magistrate Court in Ijebu-Ijesa, over alleged arson and destruction of a shrine.

Oba Agunsoye was charged with seven counts, which included conspiracy, unlawful entry into a shrine, and arson, along with the other defendants.

The monarch and the others were accused of setting fire to two tractors and one caterpillar truck loader worth over N3 billion that belonged to one Major Loye Omitunde (rtd), between January 2017 and August 2022 as part of an illegal firebombing of the proposed University of Agriculture at Ijebu-Ijesa.

The charge also states that the defendants stole sand from the Ariyan shrine, also known as the “Arugbo sacred shrine.”

The case was adjourned until February 6, 2023 by Magistrate Kike Adebayo.
