According to DAILY TRUST,on Friday,30th June 2023, the police operatives in Maiduguri metropolitan area,which is the capital city of Borno state, apprehended and took a man named Abdullahi Isa for torturing, locking up, and starving his wife for almost two years,after accusing her of being possessed with evil spirits.
Following the information obtained by news reporters,the rescued victims was seen in a live footage being conveyed in an ambulance to a nearest medical facility for urgent treatment after she was seen in an horrible state.
Reacting to the shocking occurrence,Comrade Lucy D. Yunana, an advocate for the rights of women and children responded to newsmen inquiries,saying that the strange discovery took place on Friday in the Gwange (3) neighbourhood of Maiduguri,the capital of Borno.
She added that one Bulama,an inhabitant of Gwange (3) region escorted her workers to the residence of accused, where the victim has been held captive for about two years without proper food and care,adding that,“the suspect by the name Isa Abdullahi of Gwange (3) in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council is the husband of the survivor (name withheld)”.

Speaking further,the human rights activist went on to say that,thanks for the help of concerned neighbours and some good Samaritans who usually sneak in and out of the suspect’s residence to give food to the woman,noting that if not she couldn’t have been able survive for this long under the harsh treatment of her husband,the suspect.
“Thankfully, our staff were conducting some awareness on SGBV in Gwange when Bulama of the area took our staff to the house where she was locked in and what they saw was indeed terrible and prompted us to inform the relevant authorities to save the woman’s life”.
“We went there along with the Zonal Coordinator of the Human Rights Commission, Barrister Jumai Mshelia and saw her in the room, what we saw in the room was in a bad and dehumanized condition. The man was arrested by men of the Gwange Division of Police and he is currently in the police station”,she affirmed.
In the meantime,while in police custody,the culprit,Isa Abdullahi admitted to the security authorities that,he and his wife had seven children together but none of them are alive, adding that his wife was responsible for their deaths and coupled with the fact that she is possessed with evil spirits as well which left him no choice but to cage her so that she wouldn’t cause anymore harm to him or anyone else.
As it stands,Comrade Lucy assured the general public that the rescued victim is currently under the care of medical professionals after being rushed to the hospital,adding that further updates regarding her health condition would be conveyed to the public as the matter progresses.
