3 Governors Are Trying To Pay Workers With Money They Stashed In Their Houses – Bawa

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has disclosed that the move by the Central Bank of Nigeria to redesign some naira notes is already yielding result as some state governors has been put under serious pressure to move the money they had stashed in their houses.

According to Bawa, a total of three state governors in Nigeria are making plans to engage in money laundering by paying workers with the money they stashed in their various houses according to Bawa, two governors from the northern part of Nigeria and one governor from the south are bring monitored by the EFCC.

Bawa disclosed that although the governors have not started making the payments yet, they are currently trying to do verification of officers. Bawa revealed that the law is very clear regarding cash transactions. He disclosed that anybody that is to going to engage in any cash transaction as an individual, if it is not through a financial institution, must not be above N5 million and if it is above that it is criminal for you to engage in such transaction. Bawa said that for corporate bodies, it is N10 million.

Bawa said that a lot of governors stashed cash in their houses. However, only three governors are currently trying to inject the money into the system by paying workers in cash instead of paying them through their bank accounts. Bawa said that the move by the governors is suspicious because before now, they have been paying workers through their bank accounts.
