PEPT: 'What We Saw Was More Of Technicalities Than Substantial Justice' – Sani Umar

A Former Spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Sani Umar has alleged that the PEPT final judgment was more of technicalities than substantial justice. He claimed that the Justices of the Presidential Election tribunal purportedly moved against their initial stance on not relying on technicalities in the course of the proceedings. He stated further that one of the judges discarded the evidences from Amazon based on the fact that the lady who submitted the document was an opposition party member.

He said in an interview with Arise TV news, ”Justice Haruna Tsamani at the beginning of the tribunal had already assured Nigerians that the tribunal will not rely on technicalities, that they will rely on substantial justice. And so Nigerians were very hopeful and they had their trust and confidence in the judiciary.

Believing that substantial justice will reign. But when we came to the final judgment, what we saw was more of technicalities than substantial justice. Now, I saw so many things which I enumerated. I saw a judge who while reading his own judgment, who did not even understand the judgment itself. He was struggling to read the judgement. I saw a judge who threw away something that was on a credible website which is Amazon on the basis that the person who presented the document is an interested party. When ordinarily the document is verifiable.”
