Reactions As Fani Kayode Appeals To Tinubu After Over 40 Babies Die In Hospitals Daily In Niger Rep.

Former Nigerian Minister of Ation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, posted a tweet on Twitter, alleging that the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is responsible for causing the deaths of 40 infants daily in the neighboring Republic of Niger due to a lack of electricity. Fani-Kayode questioned the morality of such actions in a tweet that asked if killing Nigerian babies brings honor.

It’s worth noting that a coup was initiated by a faction of Niger’s military on July 26, overthrowing the democratically elected government of President Mohamed Bazoum.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode further stated that he received information from a former U.S. Ambassador with strong connections to Niger Republic, who specializes in security and intelligence matters.

This source claimed that up to 40 babies are dying each day in Niger Republic due to a shortage of electricity, which has led to hospitals and incubators being unable to function. He referenced Dr. Abdoul Djibou, a medical practitioner from Niger, who confirmed the high infant mortality rate in an interview with onlineng.

The situation has reportedly been exacerbated by the closure of borders, preventing hospitals from accessing essential petroleum products like diesel and petrol to power generators and equipment. The lack of electricity has also affected the storage of valuable vaccines.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode expressed concern over the harsh consequences of cutting off electricity to Niger and appealed for the Nigerian government to reconsider this policy, given the dire humanitarian and health-related implications. He questioned the morality of inflicting harm on neighboring Nigerien citizens and called for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis rather than causing suffering to innocent people
