Presidential Election Tribunal: Court Strikes Out Obi's Petition On Electoral Irregularities

Amid the ongoing proceedings at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) currently sitting in the nation’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), there are indications that the five-man panel of Appeal Court Justices have struck out a section of the case presented by the Labour Party’s Presidential flag bearer, Peter Gregory Obi.

According to a report posted by The PUNCH on its verified Twitter handle on Wednesday, September 6, a ruling read by a member of the panel, Justice Abba Mohammed struck out 17 paragraphs of Obi’s petition citing various irregularities in the electoral process that produced APC’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 polls.

In the judgement, the court insisted that the Labour Party’s flag bearer made “vague and generic allegations” pertaining to the polling unit results that were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in favor of the winner.

While reading out his judgment to the court, Justice Mohammed held that the petitioners (Obi and the Labour Party) failed to show which polling units the malpractices had allegedly taken place, the total number of votes affected, and the polling unit agents that reported the irregularities on the day of the election.
