With many people lobbying, there is probability of having more than 36 ministers- Akin Osuntokun

According to Akin Osuntokun, Director-General of the Obi/Datti presidential campaign committee, there is a chance that there would be more than 36 ministers since so many individuals are campaigning for their selection.

When questioned about his expectations for the ministerial candidates and appointments that would be ratified at the senate in the next weeks or days, Akin Osuntokun made the comment during an interview with AIT during the Kakaaki programme.

We keep moving forward, Akin Osuntokun declared at the outset. He said that Cardinal Onaiyekan, among others, argued against continuing to put the cat before the horse.

“The election of the President, who will nominate the ministers, has not yet been finalized. The legal proceedings are now raging. The legitimacy of the president who will make the nominees is still up for debate.

Akin Osuntokun clarified afterwards, however, that the selection of ministers is a procedure that is governed by law and the constitution. His first point was the need that a minister come from each of the 36 states. But there is a chance that there will be more than 36 ministers, he said.

He said that even with Nigeria’s present economic predicament, we shouldn’t have more than 36 ministries. He cited the recent removal of gasoline subsidies as an example, noting how this would affect many Nigerians’ level of life.
