President Tinubu Takes Action to Empower 1 Million Youths In Seven States

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a fresh move to empower at least one million youths across seven states of the federation

According to TheCable reports, Vice-President Kashim Shettima says the federal government has partnered with Wema Bank to establish micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) digital hubs in seven states.

Shettima, in a statement signed by Olusola Abiola, director of information in the office of the vice-president, said the hub will empower one million youths with digital skills.

He said the government reached an agreement to implement the initiative following a meeting between the vice-president and representatives of Wema Bank.

He said the initiative is part of the commitment of the administration to create digital jobs for the youth.

“The centres to be known as FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub will open first in Lagos and Borno States with Katsina, Cross River, Anambra, Oyo, and Kano to follow afterwards. They will be run in partnership with a leading financial institution in Nigeria, WEMA Bank,” the statement issued on Sunday reads.

The statement added that one million youths will benefit from software engineering, product design and other digital training, while 500,000 SMEs will be mentored on business development.

President Tinubu had said no fewer than one million youth will be gainfully employed in the digital economy under his administration.

The president made this promise while delivering his inaugural speech at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

“My administration must create meaningful opportunities for our youth. We shall honour our campaign commitment of one million new jobs in the digital economy,” he said.

President Tinubu also said his administration would work with the National Assembly to facilitate a bill to empower his government to create more jobs.
