Obi & Atiku Failed To Provide Any Sentence Order Issued By US Police Against Tinubu – APC Lawyer

As the legal tussle between the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Congress continues to gather steam at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wole Olanipekun (SAN) has urged the court to dismiss claims alleging that the money forfeited by Bola Tinubu to the United States Government was as a result of a criminal conviction.

A report from The PUNCH indicates that in his Final Written Address submitted to the tribunal on Friday, Olanipekun, who is the Lead Counsel representing Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima in court, argued that apart from the fact that the forfeiture of $460,000 stemmed from a civil case between his client and the American government, the petitioners, through their respective witnesses, failed to provide any certificate issued by a United States Police Officer confirming that there was a conviction of any sort against the APC presidential flag bearer.

Going further, the Senior Advocate insisted that if there was indeed any criminal conviction against Tinubu as claimed by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, his client would not have been allowed to entry into the US on the several occasions that he traveled to the country.

He wrote; “Both petitioners, through their witnesses could not provide any certificate purporting to be given under the hand of a police officer from the US, containing a copy of the sentence order and fingerprints of the second respondent (Tinubu) or photographs of his fingerprints.

In order not to leave anyone in doubt that he has no criminal record in the US at all, the respondent (Tinubu) has tendered Exhibits RA13 to RA16, all to the effect that throughout all these past years, he has always enjoyed rights of ingress and egress to and from the US, a right which anyone who is burdened by a criminal forfeiture cannot enjoy.”
