Peter Obi Denounces Fake Media Reports And Reaffirms Commitment To Nigeria's Future

Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the recently concluded presidential election, has released a statement on his verified Twitter handle addressing the proliferation of fake media reports and news items that are falsely attributed to him. Obi expressed his dismay at the emerging pattern of these deceptive reports, which are often based on fabricated interviews and press remarks that he never granted.

He specifically highlighted two recent instances of such false reports. The first pertained to his alleged statement about running for office in 2027 during a supposed Arise TV interview that never actually took place. The second false report concerned his reaction to prospective appointees into the Federal Government. Obi unequivocally labelled both reports as bogus.

The politician expressed deep regret at the current state of politics, where manipulation of the media space has become a prevalent practice. Despite these challenges, Obi vowed to persist in speaking on important national issues through recognized news and media outlets. However, he made it clear that he would not be distracted by cheap trolls and would not engage in fruitless arguments.

Obi emphasised that his focus, as well as that of the Obidient Movement, would remain unwavering in its commitment to the original mission of creating a new Nigeria. He reiterated that their primary goal is not attaining political positions or personal gains but rather putting the nation on the right path and strengthening democracy by uplifting and empowering the marginalised and disadvantaged segments of society.

His Words:

“I have noticed with dismay, an emerging pattern where fake media reports and news items are predicated on interviews and press remarks I never granted. Two recent instances relate to my saying that I am looking forward to running for office in 2027 on a supposed Arise TV interview that never took place. The other is about my reaction to prospective appointees into the Federal Government. Both reports are bogus.

“Regrettably, our politics have sunken to this abysmal level where manipulation of the media space is now a trade. For me, I shall continue to speak on topical national issues recognised news and media outfits. But I certainly will not concern myself with cheap distractive trolls.

“My focus and that of the Obidient Movement will not derail from the original mission of creating a new Nigeria which we believe is POssible. Our emphasis has never been on political positions or personal aggrandizement, but on putting the nation on the right footing and deepening our democracy by helping to elevate and empower the downtrodden in our society.
