Yunusa Tanko, the spokesperson representing the Obi/Datti Campaign Council, has accused the Tribunal judges of making false allegations regarding the manipulation of evidence submitted by the Labour Party. Tanko vehemently argues that it is both unjust and inaccurate to imply that the Labour Party failed to provide substantial proof of significant irregularities in the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, the legal team of the Labour Party submitted an extensive collection of documentary evidence demonstrating that election results were not uploaded onto the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) IReV electronic transmission system, as previously promised by INEC prior to the election. This failure to electronically transmit the results raised legitimate concerns about the credibility of the final outcome.
In an interview with Channels TV, Tanko asserted, “One of our primary witnesses was a Channels TV reporter who had covered the election and personally witnessed the IReV failures. He provided truthful testimony in court regarding his observations.
However, the Tribunal judges wrongfully claimed the evidence we submitted was manipulated and fabricated by the Labour Party, which is ludicrous and false.
As the star witness for the Labour Party during the trial, I can confidently assert that we presented undeniable evidence that highlighted multiple instances where the IReV system failed to electronically transmit results, instead displaying images of individuals rather than genuine results data.
Despite this concrete evidence, the Tribunal astonishingly downplayed the significance of the IReV system in this case.”
Legal experts express concerns that the Tribunal’s dismissal of the IReV system’s failures could establish a problematic precedent for future elections, essentially granting INEC a pass on critical electronic transmission issues. The Labour Party intends to appeal the Tribunal’s questionable judgment.
