Reactions After Gov Soludo Urged Anambra Indigenes In Other States To Pay Taxes To State Govt

Social media users have continued to react to the clarion call made by the Anambra governor, Prof Charles Soludo over the need for the sons and daughters living in other parts of the country to pay taxes to the state government. This is contained in a report published by the ChannelsTv.

He made the call on Thursday while presenting 2023 Budget Estimates of about N260bn to the State House of Assembly in Awka.

The former CBN governor who lamented about the poor tax payment culture in Nigeria said Anambra is perhaps one of the states in the country with very poor tax revenue.

He said: “Wherever you live, Anambra people, pay your fair share. That is how it works everywhere. Anambra State is probably one of the worst in Nigeria with an estimated income of about N5.5tn, our projected Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2023 is just a paltry N48bn”.

The Budget presentation is coming days after he asked the federal government to be more “forceful” in its response to the raging flood across the country.

Many states in Nigeria have been battling flood disasters in recent times. Some communities in several states have been submerged. Mr. Soludo said the country must hold a national conversation about flooding to prevent a recurrence.

Below are the reactions and comments trailing the statement credited to the governor.
