PEPT: Dr Joseph Nwobike SAN reacts as Tribunal Judgement Was In Tinubu's Favour

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Dr. Joseph Nwobike reacted to some of the mixed reactions to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision on Wednesday during an interview with a Punch correspondent, as reported in an online article published this morning.

Nwobike was questioned about his thoughts on the case during the interview and was informed that the tribunal had ruled in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He also commented that the tribunal had reached the correct decision while he was still processing the news.

“I must admit that the judgements delivered by the tribunal are unassailable,” he remarked. All of the parties’ proposed theories for how to resolve the case’s disputed legal and factual problems are compatible with existing case law. Therefore, the choices made were appropriate. As is usual in electoral disputes of this nature, the petitioners can still take their cases to the Supreme Court.

I’d like to thank the learned justices for the time and effort they put into writing and delivering these decisions,” he remarked. From the perspective of the modern judicial history of common law states, such dedication is genuinely unusual. Without a doubt, lawyers, administrators, and politicians participating in election procedures in Nigeria and possibly worldwide will find these judgements to be invaluable references for years to come.
