PDP granted me permission to accept ministerial appointment – Wike

The former governor of Rivers States, Nyesom Wike who is among the newly appointed Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has condemned the criticism raised against him for accepting the offer given to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Mr. Wike who is the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), revealed the steps he took before accepting the appointment given to him despite the difference in political parties. It was reported that Nyesom Wike was sworn in alongside other ministers yesterday.

Speaking concerning the criticism, Mr. Wike reacted by revealing that he sought the permission of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), before accepting the offer. Adding that he wrote letters to the Acting National Chairman of PDP, Umar Damagun, the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubr, and Minority Leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives, seeking their permission. And they all gave him a go-ahead signal to accept the appointment. But people don’t see that, because they go about carrying propaganda threatening that he should be sanctioned for his action.

“They said they’re going to sanction me because I accepted the appointment. I don’t have any clause. But the one they talk about is Wike. Before this appointment came, I wrote to the national chairman. I wrote to the minority leaders of the House of Representatives and Senate. I wrote to the zonal chairman of the party and my state chairman. I wrote to my governor and all of them wrote me back and said accept”
