Okonkwo Reveals Why Submitting Ministerial Nominees List On The Expiration Date Is Unconstitutional

A member of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 Presidential Election, Kenneth Okonkwo, has disclosed that the Constitution states that the president of Nigeria must form his cabinet within 60 days after he assumed office.

According to Kenneth Okonkwo, the Constitution did not say that the president must submit the list of his nominees within 60 days after assuming office. Kenneth Okonkwo explained that what the Constitution meant by forming the cabinet within 60 days is that within the 60 days, the president must have submitted the list of the ministerial nominees, gotten it screened and approved by the Senate and sworn in the ministers before the 60 days timeframe elapses.

Kenneth Okonkwo maintained that Bola Tinubu’s submission of incomplete ministerial nominees on the 60th day, goes against what the Constitution demanded. Kenneth Okonkwo wondered why Bola Tinubu could not form his cabinet within 60 days despite saying that he has been preparing to be the president for a long time.
