Oil Theft: I Feel Terrible Because My Family Will Be Disappointed In Me, But I Believe God- Suspect

An oil tanker engaged in oil theft from the Niger Delta oil wells was intercepted as a result of the combined efforts of the Nigerian Military and the Tantita Security Network. One of the suspects, Odubiyi Samson, said that the person who had rented the yacht had not told them of their objective. He expressed sorrow and predicted his family would be disappointed to see him in this situation. The ship’s captain, Samson, said that neither he nor his crew knew that they were there to transport crude oil. He had faith that God would eventually lead him out of this situation.

The Tantita Security Network and the Nigerian Military worked together to seize an oil tanker that was illegally collecting crude from Niger Delta oil wells. Odubiyi Samson, one of the key suspects, said that the person who had rented the yacht had not told them of their objective. He voiced his anguish at a news conference because he thought his family would be unhappy to see him in such a scenario on television. Samson said that neither he nor his team knew they would be loading oil from the Niger Delta oil wells.

The Tantita security officers caught them as they were making their way to the planned anchor location, according to Samson, who described the events. He added that while he had been in command of the ship for a year, this was his first trip of this kind. He stated that he was unaware of their plan to carry crude oil in advance. Samson added that the sailboat had been hired by a man by the name of Uwa, and that the only thing he knew about him was his name. Eleven Nigerians and one Ghanaian were among the twelve passengers on board the ship. Samson stated his belief in God’s involvement to save him from this position despite his circumstances.
